BENEFITING: The Nature Conservancy
EVENT DATE: May 16, 2015
Join me by donating 1 tree ($1) for every 5000 steps I ascend in training for my marathon. Can we plant 3000 in 30 days?
Every second, a slice of rainforest the size of a football field is mowed down. That's over 31 million football fields of rainforest each year. Unbelievable right?
As an avid outdoorsman, adventurer, and experience finder being active is kind of my thing. I’ll take whatever chance I can to get out of the house. Last October, I was fortunate enough to take part in a trek above the Base Camp of Everest with my Dad. While it ended in a high altitude Heli-Evac for the both of us, it became a trip that I think truly defined what I believe in. The trek was a challenge, but it was not fatigue that prolonged our ascent, it was awe. Let’s just say the route is a little majestic. I don’t remember how many times I tried to pinch myself in disbelief along the way. I have never seen nature like this in my life. Crying out of the sheer gratitude of seeing it, was a first for me.
And I think it was this moment that I truly realized what I valued most in my life. My hope is to take this inspiration and make a huge change. And with my upcoming marathon, lay the foundation to plant the roots of our future.
Forests help sustain all life on Earth. They clean our water. Cleanse our air. Cool our planet. Trees give us refuge and refreshment, shade and shelter. The Plant a Billion Trees campaign will help improve important watersheds that provide clean drinking water and hydroelectricity to millions of people, as well as protection for thousands of species of native plants and animals. People will also benefit on a global scale - the trees planted by the campaign will capture atmospheric carbon equivalent to the emissions of one million cars every year.
How to help?
Please consider donating $1 for every set of 5000 stairs I walk with my pack.
Every $1 plants a tree. How many will you add to your legacy?
I only count stairs as I am climbing up. Currently my pack weighs in at just under 130lbs. This will increase as my training progresses. I chose 5000 stairs, because that is pretty close to the number of stairs I will climb on route in the marathon.
So far I have covered 15,300 stairs.
Here’s my upcoming plan for April (I will adjust May depending on how this goes):
4/15 – 2000, 130lbs
4/17 – 2500, 130lbs
4/19 – 3000, 130lbs
4/20 – 1500, 140lbs
4/22 – 2000, 140lbs
4/24 – 2500, 140lbs
4/26 – 1500, 150lbs
Feeling inspired - want to join me - want to reach out?
