Theatre Tallahassee (formerly Tallahassee Little Theatre) has been proudly serving Tallahassee, Florida for the past 64 years; 49 of those years have been from our current location. During that time we have made adjustments and modifications to our facility to accommodate the needs of our growing audiences. The last major renovation of the theatre occurred in 1992 with the addition of the Coffeehouse, scene shop, and overhaul of the Mainstage to increase our comfort, capacity and stage size to accommodate a larger range of shows.
We want to create the next step in the growth of this remarkable institution. It is time for us to address the facilities needs and ensure that Theatre Tallahassee’s artistic quality on stage is enhanced by the improved function, increased comfort, and attractive appearance of a newly renovated building. These renovations will enhance the theater experience for all of our audiences and improve the conditions provided to the artists. We are building the future of Theatre Tallahassee and strengthening its foundation as Tallahassee’s community theatre; providing a gathering space for community volunteers to create live theater and providing intrinsic and economic improvement to the community.
Theatre Tallahassee is at a critical point with our facilities. The building has been aging slowly and many of the original structures are simply wearing out, or we have grown beyond its designed capacity. We were fortunate enough to receive a gift that allowed us to begin building renovations this past summer, providing a new auditorium and sound system for all of our patrons to enjoy. Now we are faced with the remainder of the project. With the guidance of contractors and architects we have embarked on a plan to undertake a historic renovation of Theatre Tallahassee facilities, updating our building to serve the community for years to come.
We are asking every one of our patrons, friends and community supporters to donate to our Capital Campaign. We have a sizable goal of raising $1.5 million dollars and we need everyone's help to accomplish our mission of saving our building. We began this project with funds from a generous gift, and have been applying for grants as well as working with the city and county to find any funding opportunities; however the majority of funding will need to come from our patrons, supporters, businesses and community.
By donating now, you will become part of the legacy that allows Theatre Tallahassee to thrive into the future, allowing us to continue being a leader in our arts community for years to come.
You will be able to:
- enjoy drama, comedy, music and suspense in a state of the art building
- enjoy a beverage in our new lounge and lobby
- sit comfortably in the redesigned permanent black box Coffeehouse space
- walk in the front doors our new grand entrance
- enjoy the larger capacity dressing rooms as an actor
- or simply buying a ticket from our new box office.
All these things add up to a memorable evening out at Theatre Tallahassee, but we can’t do it without you.
