Lakota 5 Back for 2013!
In 2012, One Spirit sent 5 Lakota runners to compete in the NYC Marathon. Hurricane Sandy ended their opportunity to race, but not their opportunity to lend a helping hand. The runners and their chaperones voted unanamously to pitch in with the clean up efforts, staying after the marathon was cancelled to help residents of Staten Island remove rubble, shovel sand and whatever else was needed. Helping each other is a central Lakota value and we are so proud of their efforts!
The 5 Lakota Marathon runners have all been invited back to run in the 2013 NYC Marathon! These young role models are again raising money to help build the Allen Youth Center. Allen is in the poorest town in America, and we hope this Youth Center will be a model for other communities on the Pine Ridge Reservation. But, we've got to get this one built first!
We invite each of you to contribute generously or even start your own fundraiser to help these young Lakota men and women reach their goal of $18,000.
Let's keep the spiri of generosity strong, and pass it on!
