In August and September of this year, I will be taking 1,000,000 steps as I trek across Spain on the Camino Santiago (The Way of St. James). I am following the way for my own spiritual reasons, but I walk for Christian Women Works of Charity in Ongata-Rongai, Kenya.
Christian Women Works of Charity (CWWC) is a Kenyan, community-run and community-based organization which operates in two slums on the outside of Nairobi. Find out more about them on their Facebook Page.
My daughter worked with CWWC for an internship and has been collaborating with this organization since she left Kenya almost 4 years ago. They have some new initiatives which will help the center become more self-sustaining. One such initiative is the construction of a bakery and craft shop. The bakery and craft shop will be situated at the main center in Ongata-Rongai. Besides being used to sell bread, pastries, and other goodies, it will train older students, guardians, and single mothers in basic business and entrepreneurial skills, baking and cooking, and craft making. The income generated from the bakery and craft shop will feed back into the centers various programs as well as provide additional income and usable skills to those that work there.
I will be taking 1,000,000 steps on my journey, and for each step I take, I hope to raise 1 cent. You do the math! That is my goal. Help me get there by donating!
