One Student at a Time - Cornerstone School
Organized by: Antonio Popp
Hello, my name is Antonio Popp. I am in the eighth grade at Notre Dame Prep Marist Academy (NDPMA) in Pontiac, Michigan. As part of the eighth grade curriculum we are required to do a community project. The purpose of the community project is to help a person or persons in the community. I chose to help one student at Cornerstone School, Nevada Campus, in Detroit. Cornerstone is a private Christian school offering children an excellent education. I made this choice for my community project after extensive research on public education in Detroit. My research showed that the quality of education in Detroit is way below average. Students in Detroit need the chance at a better education.
I have been blessed and extremely lucky to be able to attend NDPMA. I want to have an impact on someone that is not so fortunate. I would love to be able to help all the kids in the City of Detroit, but realize that is not realistic. My community project involves two steps. First, I wanted to make a personal imprint on a student. I am doing this by going to the school twice a week in January. During each visit to the school I meet with the student I will be helping. We spend time talking about life, school work, chess, and other activities. I may also be helping him with homework. I am not able to share his name with all of you. He is a third grader, from the City of Detroit, currently attending Cornerstone School, Nevada Campus. He is an energetic boy that loves life and people. I am hoping I will be his "big brother" for all of his education.
The second step is the fund raising. The purpose of this fundraiser is raise money toward my third grader's yearly tuition. In addition to this fundraiser, I am holding bake sales at school to raise money. The student I am sponsoring has a great start at Cornerstone and I would like to help him so that he can carry on at Cornerstone School. We all know how importance of a good education! I am asking for your help too! If could please donate $5.00, $10.00, $20.00, $50.00 or any amount it would be greatly, greatly appreciated! It would help an awesome kid get a great education.
My deadline for fund raising is January 31, 2016. Based on the fund raising guidelines the money will be placed into an account opened for this fundraiser and a check for 100% of the money raised will be written by my parent directly to Cornerstone for the third grader's tuition.
Thank you so much for your time and your donation!!! Antonio
