BENEFITING: Patricia Fleming Foundation
This project protects women and girls who have been raped, forced into marriage, subjected to domestic violence or threatened with honor killing. There are 25 million refugee women and children in the world. The United Nations only resettles about 1% of refugees. That means there are over 20 million refugee women and children who have little hope of permanent protection. That sounds pretty staggering and it's easy to feel helpless. The One Woman One World project is focused on one women or one girl at a time. We go to countries where there are refugees, find the women and girls who have suffered gender based violence, and move them to a place where they're safe. Basically, we're a global refugee clinic run by American lawyers. The legal work is free, but there are nonlegal costs connected to our project, things like food, water, relocation assistance and shelter. This fundraiser aims to cover those costs. Our current project is focused on refugee women and girls in the Middle East - Syrian rape victims, Yezidi girls who escaped ISIS, and Iraqi women who've suffered domestic violence and rape. If you can help support our project, you'll change their lives.
