EVENT DATE Apr 02, 2016
If a farm girl in Ethiopia makes it to college, she is on her own. She has little choices of earning income other than the sex-trade.
When financial difficulties are combined with disempowerment, people don’t have the vision or the strength to say, ‘I’ll stay hungry before I sell myself.’ My campus job made me think of bringing the same model to my former university, because it changed my life. I want to empower students.
Our mission is to introduce a permanent and sustainable student employment program for low-income female university students in Ethiopia by launching small college businesses that serve and hire students. On-Her-Own is specifically designed to empower and provide female university students with non-exploitative alternative means of income.
In solidarity with the woman who is on her own in college--she deserves a chance to earn. She can make it on her own. Do you agree? Let us make it happen for her together.
