Open Art Space- Barrie, ON
Organized by: J C
Barrie is a very creative and artist-filled city and has many resources in and around it that are very useful to artists. However, amongst all the "kids classes" and "wine and canvas"-es, we seem to have forgotten that there are still works of art that take more time than a few hours and a glass or two of pinot. Young or new artists can also benefit from being around more experienced artists, by being inspired by them and learning new techniques from them. We are going to create a welcoming, inspiring, encouraging and positive space for all to enjoy. Barrie and its local artists would benefit greatly from an open space dedicated to ongoing creation and inspiration. We want to accommodate artists of every age and skill level by providing an open space they can use to work on new projects, as well as having a secure storage space so they don't have to set up and tear down and lug everything around each time they come in. Once up and running we would have artists become members, and would pay a monthly or yearly membership fee to have access to the space. This fund is to help get us off ground-level. We want to be able to secure a space and be able to keep it for at least a year so that people have time to benefit from the space. At this stage we are hoping to provide space and storage lockers, and in the future hope to be able to grow to accommodate the needs of artists in need of appliances like a kiln or forge. This project is in the early stages of planning so we need all the help we can get.
