OBP has the opportunity to run in the Marine Corps Marathon on October 30, 2016 thanks to Charity Teams and Mass Fallen Heroes.
This is a great opportunity for Operation Blue Pride to raise funds to continue and expand its mission.
Operation Blue Pride, or OBP, is an all volunteer non-profit organization which provides scuba programming, veteran outreach and networking for Veterans, Gold Star Families and other members of the Armed Forces.
OBP volunteers consider themselves very lucky. We have had many opportunities and rights in the United States which we would not have had without the commitment and sacrifice of our Veterans, Gold Star Families and other members of the Armed Forces.
ONCE OUR VETERANS BECOME A PART OF THE MILITARY, THEIR LIVES CHANGE FOREVER SO THAT OURS CAN STAY THE SAME
While our initial mission focused on physically disabled Veterans and those suffering with the hidden wounds of war, such as post traumatic stress, traumatic brain injuries and depression, we have expanded our mission so that OBP’s programs, services and equipment are available to ALL Veterans, Gold Star families and other members of the Armed Forces.
Each of the acts of signing the blank-check, being deployed and/or combat would affect any individual and their families. When they reintegrate into civilian life or continue their service here at home, they ARE changed. We refer to this change as the new normal. We are trying to use scuba training to support their steps in establishing THEIR NEW NORMAL and give them a new set of capabilities and options that can improve their lives.
Since we began in March 2014, we have:
Arranged for and financed the open water certification of over 52 local area Veterans (and this number is growing--we are in the various stages of completing the open water certifications of 30 plus additional Veterans this summer). Our program is at no cost to the Veteran, Gold Star Family Member or other member of the Armed Forces. Our programming is only limited by our funding.
We have organized and financed OBP guided boat dives and several shore dives in the Gloucester/Rockport area as well as Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
We have purchased five (5) sets of equipment and received (and serviced) additional equipment to be available for “rent” at no cost to the Veterans.
To enhance our capability to meet our mission, we arranged to have trainers from the Handicap Scuba Association come to Boston for further training. This included classroom instruction, progressing to practice in the pool and then open water checkout skills at Front Beach in Rockport. We were able to train 3 instructors and 5 buddy divers ( many of them are working towards their instructor certification).
We are hopeful that you will support our fundraising as a part of the OBP MTM Team.
