Operation Coach is an innovative program launched by Up2Us Sports that places and trains military veterans to be coaches and mentors for undeserved youth. In Los Angeles, Veterans face an uphill battle in the hunt for meaningful employment after returning home from their service. USC reports that 60% of veterans indicate that assistance finding employment is among their biggest challenges. However, 75% of veterans do not receive help finding employment, and should they find it on their own, 68% also report challenges adjusting to civilian life and reconnecting with their community, which hampers their capacity to maintain employment. We should be supporting the more than 325,000 veterans living in Los Angeles County with meaningful employment and service opportunities. Operation Coach provides this meaningful employment opportunity. Military Veterans receive up to 12 months of employment by serving a year in underserved communities throughout Los Angeles County. Through their time with Up2Us Sports they gain over 50 hours of professional development and training, connection to the vast network of over 100 youth serving organizations in Los Angeles County, and an education award all of which leads to future career opportunities. Veterans leave our program giving back to their communities and gaining experience along the way. Our Veterans serve and protect our country. Please help me fundraise to create more of these opportunities for them AND give our youth more amazing mentors.
