EVENT DATE: Jul 29, 2012
Hello friends & family!! Priscilla here~~
It's my SECOND HALF MARATHON!! A lot of you were already very generous, helping me out with my first fundraising that went towards blood cancers research. Wanted to THANK all of you for that! Here goes a second fundraiser (I understand if I've already milked you too much from the first!)
Operation Access makes it possible for low-income, uninsured people to get needed surgical and specialty care, free of charge, through a medical volunteer network in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Sonoma counties.
In 2011, over 1500 people had operations like hernia and knee repairs and cataract removals that were donated by doctors, nurses, technicians who volunteer their time and skills, and the hospitals that support them. The value of the care provided in 2011 was over $15 million.
Please join us for a Kick-Off social event on Thursday May 10th 6-9PM at Vinyl Wine Bar, 359 Divisidero (at Oak St.) in San Francisco, where you will have the opportunity to learn more about OA, meet some of your teammates, and win some great raffle prizes.
A former patient inspired our participation in the SF Marathon. After a year of pain and unemployment, OA volunteers repaired a hernia and Achilles tendon for Jose, a landscaper and veteran marathon runner. He is back to work and back in the race, running in both the Marin Human Race and 2012 SF Marathon to honor Drs. Richard Bland and Thomas Fitzgerald and all of the OA volunteers who help get people back on their feet. Jose's story was recently featured in the Sonoma Index-Tribune.
