Coins for Humanity is an international volunteer organization whose mission is to afford Black college and university students access to traveling to Sub-Saharan Africa to develop, implement, and evaluate high impact HIV/AIDS projects with the intention of supporting in the elimination of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
The goal of this year’s fundraiser is to raise at least $10,000, which will fund two Black college student's trip to Sub-Saharan Africa during the summer semester of 2016. The $10,000 will cover the cost of operations, flight, room and board and 1 recreational/cultural experience such as a safari. It is through the mission of Coins for Humanity that space is created where a Pan-African support network can begin to develop to support our communities that are disproportionately impacted by HIV/AIDS.
The mission of Coins for Humanity is important because the CDC predicts that if current rates persists, 1 in 32 African American women and 1 in 16 African American men will become infected with HIV in their lifetime. Additionally UNAIDS, estimates that nearly 3, 200 Africans die within Sub-Saharan Africa everyday. Through our international service projects, students will be able to exchange innovative visions, ideas, and solutions to the HIV/AIDS crisis, and gain insight into the scope of global health in comparison to how we address national public health crises in America. Most importantly, students will be able to deepen their connection to their African heritage and identity through cultural building and exploration while in country.
Coins for Humanity is standing in committed action to our purpose and mission by being connected, risk-taking, and urgent!! We are here to make an IMPACT!!! SUPPORT US!!!
