Operation Restore a Smile
Organized by: Imad Shehadi
Mission Operation Restore a Smile helps Children born to low income families in Lebanon deal with physical deformities caused by birth defects, or trauma through the gift of reconstructive surgery. Our Vision Operation Restore a Smile is a non for profit medical mission that financially covers low income children that are in need for reconstructive surgery. We rely on local physician volunteers to operate and care for children with physical deformities caused either by birth or trauma through reconstructive surgery. Our aim is to cover hospital expenses so that our volunteer physicians can donate their time and expertise. We provide patients with limited means in Lebanon with the opportunity to develop a positive self-image and become a productive member of their community. What We Do Operation Restore a Smile is a medical mission devoted for children. We host twelve restorative weekends (Saturday and Sunday) per year. Volunteer medical professionals transform the lives of children with deformities through reconstructive surgery. Operation Restore a Smile’s approach to medical treatments relies on local volunteer physicians. Our aim is help these local physicians, help their communities in need to take care of these often forgotten children and provide these kids with continuity of care. These patients often relied on medical mission coming from the United States and Europe for their specialized care. Operation Restore a Smile is truly dedicated to provide these kids with excellent medical care locally and without much delay. We cover both simple and complicated reconstructions (Cleft Lip and Palate, Craniofacial deformities, Hand deformities, Burn Scar and contractions, Traumatic war injuries). Our organization is transparent and used to be funded locally. With the Syrian refugee crisis in Lebanon increasing with almost 2 million refugees our local funding has almost disappeared, but our need has grown exponentially. With the above fact in mind I have decided to give crowd funding a try we hope that you can help us, in return we will keep you informed of every restorative week end, the patients that we help and the dedicated medical teams that are involved. Every dollar helps and counts, we appreciate your help.
