Friends, as many of you might know, i'm not really the charitable type (being honest and not particularly proud of it) but this is one time in my life i believe i cannot afford to remain a mute spectator as large swathes of my adopted homeland and its kind people lay in ruins because of the greatest natural catastrophe to take place in my lifetime ( i pray)
An overwhelmingly large number of people affected are farmers living in farming communities. Most have rice and other grains they produce and water conduits in the villages are mostly unaffected. The greatest need of the hour is not food or water but basic shelter in the form of tarpaulins for many who have lost homes and are sleeping rough under the sky. With the monsoons just weeks away, a waterproof covering is what most affected seek.
Tarpaulins are not just an immediate solution for brief respite until quake affected can get back on their feet and start rebuilding their lives, it can also help protect their harvested crops, cattle and any worldly goods they may have retrieved from their collapsed houses.
It is the initiative of The Corporate Club ( a grouping of Tibetan businessmen here in Nepal) of which i am a member, to import (as local stocks have run out) 1000 pieces of 16' x 20' tarpaulins and 500 blankets to distribute to the most affected districts outlying Kathmandu.
Many friends have come forward to help out and i'm reaching out to even more to raise as much money as we can to make this initiative of our's possible.
Please do help. All our members are voluntary, contribute financially and work tirelessly for no personal gain. I assure you every Rupee, Dollar, Franc, Euro will be put to the best use possible..
I'll be posting our works too..
