BENEFITING: BREVARD WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARD INC
EVENT: CrowdRise Holiday Challenge
EVENT DATE: Nov 18, 2013
What is a U.S. Veteran?
“ Any person who served for Any length of time in Any military service branch.”
What is a Hero?
A person of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his or her brave deeds and noble qualities.
VETERANS – they served our country and gave their best to insure our freedom. Now they need a little help from each of us to insure their futures.
Brevard County, Florida is home to many veterans from Patrick Air Force Base and Cape Canaveral Air Station who are making the transition from soldier to local civilian and citizen. Many are struggling due to the challenges they face re-entering the work arena in a county hard hit by recession and the added impact of a workforce reduction of thousands of workers at Kennedy Space Center when the Space Shuttle Program ended.
At the same time, funding provided by Brevard Workforce has been drastically cut meaning services to help our veterans get the extra help they need to complete their re-employment goals are drying up.
Competition for fewer jobs that demand higher and more unique skills has forced many veterans to re-evaluate their approach toward achieving their career goals. And yet, Brevard Workforce still very much wants to help.
Through Brevard Workforce, Operation Work Hero will assist local veterans currently enrolled in classes and training by providing a few badly needed items to support their successful completion toward landing that all important next career.
Funds raised will enable Brevard Workforce to provide one or more of the following, depending on the individual veteran's need:
- Refurbished Laptops for course work, resume development and job search
- Data Storage Device (jump drives)
- Bikes enabling localized transportation
- Quality locks to secure bicycles -Transportation Vouchers
- Set of business clothing for job search
- Class D & G License ($250): For those seeking a career as a Security Officer
Your donation no matter how large or how small, will help us make a veteran's next job - reality! Can you help?
