THE STORY:

The Concerned citizens of the Old Quindaro Museum are raising money to restore the Museum Building. The building's roof has never been adequately repaired or replaced since it was built in 1900. There are several layers of roof shingles that have been added to the original wooden shingles. The decay of the certain parts of the roof have lead to other problems to the structure on the interior of the building.
Repairing the museums roof will salvage the first of private homes build by John Allen Walker that had hot and cold running water and electricity. Mr. Walker was the son of a slave from Centerville Mississippi. He was the also the groundskeeper and caretaker of Western University which was founded in 1873 and a former Historical Black College and University (HBCU).

What a historic Treasure to have in Kansas City, KS. Without our history to the old settlement of this community we would not have the rich and vibrant culture we do today. 4 years ago
