“If I was not here in Daraja,” Meldah reflected, “I would be at home living a miserable life where nearly everything is scarce.” When Meldah was taking her 8th grade exams, most of her family and community doubted she would go on to secondary school. With the help of parents who cared very much for her but couldn’t financially support her continued education, and a teacher, Meldah finished her Kenyan Certificate of Primary Education and was accepted into Daraja and is currently in her sophomore year.
Meldah wants to become a teacher or an accountant and makes her studies a priority. In her spare time, she enjoys playing football (soccer), basketball, and “fast-walking” at Daraja. She finds joy in laughter and spending time with friends.
“There is nothing you cannot do with an education,” Meldah said. “Nothing.”
The Orchard House School community believes in helping girls acheive their dreams. By running on May 19, we are raising awareness and funds to sponsor Meldah for a full academic year at Daraja Academy. Please help us reach our goal of $2,500 dollars so that Meldah can have the same opportunity that we value so much at Orchard House.
It is only a click away! So don't waste time...the clock is ticking! If we don't pitch in for Daraja, no one will. Let's get our fundraising ON! Get to it!
