#BlackLivesMatter Ride: Pacific NW
Organized by: Tessara Dudley
Sep 04, 2014 Update: Thanks to the support of everyone who gave, the team returned home safe. Your gifts allowed us to make sure everyone got back okay -- thank you!
Sep 01, 2014 Update: Due to inclement weather, the group got stranded last night in Missouri, and their emergency stop hotel processed cards wrong, so they are spending tonight there as well. We are pushing out the goal again to make sure we can cover two unexpected hotel stays, and cover all the costs of getting the group home.
Please give if you can, and share the fundraiser around. We are currently all in communication, and the priority is now returning the group of 16 riders home. Thank you for your support.
Aug 26, 2014 Update: We hit $5,000; wow! We're pushing out to a stretch goal of $8,000, to cover unexpected costs. Thanks for supporting us, and please keep spreading the word!
On 28 August, 2014, the “Black Life Matters Ride” an initiative of #BlackLivesMatter will bring Black folks from across the country into Ferguson, Missouri, as part of a national call to end state violence against Black people.
The “Black Life Matters Ride” is a call to action, a slogan under which Black people can unite to end state sanctioned violence both in Ferguson, but also across the United States of America. We hope these rides will become a standard practice towards greater solidarity inside of the Black community.
This fund will support the Pacific NW-based Ride. Your donation will help us get there and back home, make sure we have food and lodging while in Ferguson, and allow us to take supplies down with us, depending on the needs of the community. Please give if you are able; we are committed to supporting residents in their quest for a peaceful, just resolution to the situation, and bringing about change on a larger scale--but we need your support.
Money donated will pay for travel costs, housing, food, medical supplies if necessary, and other supplies for rebuilding, cleaning up, protecting community members, and supporting them in advocating for themselves and each other. It will also support Michael Brown's family and the national movement for change.
•Thursday-Friday: Riders travel to Ferguson
• Saturday: Solidarity march and local community engagement efforts
• Sunday: Coordinate a national day of action with community members
• Monday: Depart from Ferguson and return to our communities to build the national movement towards justice
