BENEFITING: American Red Cross
Hi friends, family, and supporters. This horrific event occurred just 40 miles from my home. I am overwhelmed by grief and concern for the humans involved in this tragedy, and because conditions are too unstable for volunteers to go in and directly assist with recovery efforts I created this campaign through American Red Cross.*
Often we become numb to the requests for help/monetary assistance for the numerous tragedies that occur everyday across the globe. The stories we respond to are those that involve us personally or events we can imagine could happen to us or our loved ones.
So I'm going to blatently exploit my relationship with each and every one of you right now. I am personally requesting that you contribute $5 or $10 to this recovery. You don't have to do it here, and it doesn't have to be to the Red Cross, but please consider donating to help this community.
From Komo News today:
"Two bodies were recovered Tuesday, while eight more were located in the debris field from Saturday's slide 55 miles northeast of Seattle, Hots said. That brings the likely death toll to 24, though authorities are keeping the official toll at 16 until the eight other bodies are recovered.
With scores still missing, authorities are working off a list of 176 people unaccounted for, though some names were believed to be duplicates.
County officials are encouraging people who have reported someone missing on social media or a website, including people who are safe, to call a Snohomish County hot line at 425-388-5088 so officials can update their database. People can also email updates to firstname.lastname@example.org."
*Normally I would create a fundraiser page with Team Rubicon, but they for whatever reason haven't started a campaign, and I'm too impatient to wait.
