OSO STARTED WATER THERAPY!!!
We are almost half way to our goal for Oso's initial treatments and we are so thankful to ALL of you who have donated.
My favorite quote is "Helping one dog will not change the world, but it will change the world for that one dog" and that is what all of you are doing for Oso the Wobbly Wonder Pup. Since donations are coming in we have been able to start Oso's water therapy and purchase his stability ball. He has had three water therapy treatments so far and we are already seeing a difference and it has only been a week! None of this would have been possibly without your kindness and we are hopeful that we can raise the full amount to continue therapy for this incredible little puppy! :)
To follow Oso's progress we have set up a facebook page:
THE FULL STORY
Hermoso Oso, known to many as Oso is an 8 month old puppy with significant neurological issues who I am fostering through Denkai Animal Sanctuary for the 2nd time and he could really use your help. When he originally came to me in April 2013 the cause of his balance issues weren’t known as there wasn't enough funding available to do diagnostic testing. During the first time I fostered him I was able to get a neurological evaluation that was donated for him and it was determined that Oso most likely has Cerebellum Hypoplasia. This is a condition that causes jerky movements, tremors, and generally uncoordinated motions. There is no cure for this condition, but a dog can learn to compensate if intervention is done early enough with things like physical therapy and additional help.
Right after we had Oso evaluated he was adopted by a very kind and loving family which was great. Upon arrival to his new home there were concerns with how the families very large dog and Oso interacted. They tried every means they could to make it work, but it didn’t so they made the very hard decision to return Oso to Denkai Animal Sanctuary and back into foster care. This is how he ended up back with us. We have had him for about a month now and, while I have been working with him regularly, it is clear that he requires physical therapy beyond what I can do and needs additional diagnostic testing to rule out other conditions that can affect his balance and vision. Regardless of the testing that is needed, physical therapy is crucial to alleviate many of his struggles. If intervention is done early enough in dogs with Cerebellum Hypoplasia, the theory is that they can retrain their muscles and nerves to compensate for the brain condition.
This is why I am asking for your help. He needs to start treatment and testing ASAP but it is quite costly. With three dogs of my own and running my own business, I just do not have the financial means to cover the cost, nor does Denkai Animal Sanctuary. Any donation to his care would be greatly appreciated and will help change Oso’s life immensely. Please know that any money raised beyond what I am asking for will go towards his continued care. Thank you in advance for your consideration in helping Oso the Wobbly Wonder Pup.
