Project Description: This year we are returning to Gujarat, India to implement a second rainwater harvesting structure and provide paralegal training to women at risk.
Project Details: The state of Gujarat receives the least amount of rain in the region and locals face crop shortages. Groundwater has become scarce and contaminated with salt and fluoride, so the residents need a new source of clean water. The rain harvesting structure will provide a reliable and safe source of water for the community throughout the dry season (eight months). Additionally, many Indian women face challenges to their health and safety, and don’t have access or the resources to get legal help. The paralegal trainings will educate and empower a group of 15 women by providing them access to the training and certification they need to fight local injustices, such as domestic violence or governmental fines.
Nourish International’s mission is to engage students and empower communities to make a lasting impact on extreme global poverty through sustainable development. Our students will be collaborating with Samerth Charitable Trust and local community members to build a water catchment site. Additionally, we are implementing a week-long paralegal training for women at risk who can't afford legal counseling. This will help empower these women to tackle local justice issues and become the ambassadors of women's issues.
