As many know I raced for my hero and sister Dawn Twedt who made her journey to heaven on April 9th when God called her home. She will forever be with me and my hero in how she won her battle against Ovarian Cancer for six years with such an amazing attitude plus she taught me so much in that 6 years. So happy we were blessed with those extra years. She touched so many people during that time and together we raised $45,000 for Ovarian Cancer Researach. Dawn is going to continue to touch people as we will race on but this years race will be Ironman Boulder 70.3 as I need some time away from full Ironmans as that was something special that she and I did together. But now our journey is going to change to help families going through the same experience that our family just had.
During Dawn's 30 day journey to heaven I witnessed first hand how hard this when you are a parent losing a child. Along with that experience also seeing the expenses that occur while the toughest thing that a parent will ever go through is happening. Sadly some parents experience this with a much younger child. I really have no idea how I would have handled this when I was younger let alone if my parents had to go through this with my sister before she was 18. Sadly, many parents do and when this occurs many lose jobs as they run out of time to take off. This in turn can wreck havoc on money to pay a mortgage payment. So imagine youself dealing with a terminally ill child under the age of 18 and not having money to make your mortgage payment. Now imagine having no one to help you and possible losing your home that you have memories in with that child and ending up with no place to live. I can't even imagine having to go through that but it happens every day. That is why I have moved my fund raising in memory of my hero and sister to MBA Open Doors. 100% of all money they receive goes to helping familes going through exactly this so they don't have to think about losing a home while going through what will be the toughest sitution a parent will ever go through. I was lucky enough to spend 24 of the 30 days with my sister on her journey and never had to worry about my job so I'm paying that forward to MBA Open Doors in raising money to help others families.
