Building a home for a family
November 22, 2017
I am John Jarin, the area coordinator for Gawad Kalinga USA here in Miami. I am a Filipino. I am a Physician/Nurse Practitioner by profession. I am a husband of a supportive wife Marlene for almost 9 years. We have 2 adorable and loving kids, Isabella, 7 and Santino, 5. I am a father, husband, brother, son and a friend. Like many of you, I always want to have the best for my family. My family is fortunate enough to be in the United States and have a comfortable life. I want my kids to know that there are kids and families that are not as fortunate as we are, that it is important to share our blessings.
As I make my journey to my first IRONMAN event, Ironman 70.3 Miami on October 22, 2017, I want to honor the Heroes of Gawad Kalinga (GK) USA in their fight to end poverty in the Philippines. They have fought for so many impoverished families across the nation and now it's my turn to continue their fight. That's why this race is my toughest yet. I want it to be more meaningful not only by raising money for the poor but also by increasing awareness about Gawad Kalinga. This organization does not only build houses for the poor but they empower them by providing livelihood and basic services making them self-sufficient. The guidance provided by GK builds character and it raises them up out of poverty. It is a slow and steady process that produces successful results. Much like triathlon training, slow and steady consistency produces successful results.
The target amount of donation will enable us to build a house for a family in need.
I hope you can help me with my cause. Thank you!
