Got it working and BIG THANKS
October 22, 2017

WE are back working. As of the end of this year any crowd sourcing efforts will switch to Go Fund Me but we will welcome support always through See More

THE STORY:

"Help us raise funds for some of our range-country partners! $5 will go a long way to helping our two priority projects for otters in Africa. Without the awareness and help of local citizens involved in local solutions to local problems Africa's wildlife and wild places will continue to suffer - otters included.

The $2,000 we ask will be divided between:

Project 1 - Kikongo Otter Sanctuary in Democratic Republic of Congo - they have created a boys club to address slash & burn agriculture by planting trees - 25 shovels, buckets, wheel barrows and supplies for the guys to spread the word to not hunt otters!

Project 2 - William Mgomo is a Game Warden in Tanzania and is monitoring local otter populations, talking with local fishermen and working on local solutions to human/otter conflicts for fish resources. His priorities are fuel for his motorcycle (piki piki in Swahili) and educational outreach materials.

The Otters for Africa Fund – launched in October 2016, this fund accepts donations of all sizes - you would be amazed how far $5 goes in Africa. Funds will be allocated to small, range-country originated projects such as rehab/rescue centres, community monitoring projects and community outreach projects. Some of these projects are already in existence but have trouble finding funds for equipment (GPS, fuel, cameras, phones, boots, etc.) to conduct local interviews or small-scale surveys for otter presence. It is AON’s belief that to conserve wildlife and wild places, local community involvement and control is vital; projects like these are difficult to find funds for within a reasonable time frame. Partner donors will be provided updates regularly via African Otter Network. Our ultimate goal for Otters for Africa is to create a sustainable fund that can provide small amounts that can be key to the success of our growing group of front-line conservationists."
