This fundraiser is donated to Sharon Ouellet, my mother, in support of her fight against Mullerian (a rare type of extremely agressive Ovarian) cancer. She is a strong, wonderful caring person. A public school teacher for decades, her love has touched many, whether it was bringing in food for her students who didn't have money to buy breakfast, or mentoring high school robotics teams when she retired, Sharon is always looking for ways to help others.
I will be completing the Spartan Trifecta in support of her. This series races consists of some of the hardest endurance races on the planet. To gain Trifecta status I must complete all 3 distances in a single year. The races are the Massachusetts Spartan Sprint in Amesbury on August 10th, the Tristate Super Spartan on September 7th in Vernon, NJ and the World Championship Spartan Beast in Killington, Vt on September 21st. Combined these races cover over 25 miles of fire, mud, water, harsh terrian and generally hell on earth. The Spartan Beast is over 13 miles without any food or water stations. There's a reason the waivers say "You may die."
Over several months of training I have prepared myself for these races, and lost over 45lbs in the process. This isn't just a race, it's a lifestyle. There is a realization in the training that "life is a game of inches." That to become something better, you must go through the pain and sacrifice what you are for what you can become. The commitment it has taken me to reach this point will carry forward making sure that I lead a happy and healthy life.
My mother has said should she recover from her fight, that she has been inspired to complete a Spartan Race alongside me. Nothing could make me happier.
Funds from this campaign benefit the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Ma. These are the best doctors and researchers in the world and my mother is lucky enough to be treated by them. Funds will go towards research and treatments to help end cancer for all.
Keep calm and fight on.
