THE STORY:

OUR LIL BIT OF HEAVEN ANIMAL RESCUE AND SANCTUARY INC wrote -

This innovative program was launched in June, 2015 as a way to get senior dogs and dogs with medical issues into forever loving homes.  These categories of dogs are most always passed over by adopters, at open admission shelters they are euthanized because they take up space, at rescues they set and wait - some pass on before ever knowing a "home".  We here at Our Lil' Bit of Heaven (OLBH) had to do something that would change that course for them thus, the Forever Foster program.  The challenges that potential adopters see with senior and medically challenged dogs are mainly wrapped around the cost of care.  OLBH's program pays it all!  We cover everything the Forever Foster dog needs, food, veterinary care, preventatives, medicines etc.  Their initial placement includes everything they need to start their retirement in their new home - new bed, collar, harnass, leash, bowls with riser, treats, supplements (where needed), toys, grooming tools, food and 3 months preventatives.   Then once we know that the foster and foster home are bonding well, they are set up on an autoshipment for their food. We partner with veterinarians across the midwest to provide care for our Forever Foster dogs when they are placed out of driving range of our rescue's vet.

Since the induction of this program we have placed 18 senior dogs, seven of that 18 were later adopted by their Forever Foster families.  It's all about getting these dogs into homes and letting them shine their light, live out their lives being loved and doted on.

PLEASE help us to continue and grow this program.  By doing so, you're also helping lower the euthanasia rate of senior and medically challenged dogs at open admission shelters around us (since we'll be pulling more of these dogs out of there), opening space in said shelters for others in need, saving MORE than just one life - it's a chain reaction!
