As many of you know, I LOVE to run and what better way to raise money than running for a cause.
Our Clubhouse is a non-profit organization that provides free emotional and social support to those touched by cancer in western Pennsylvania. They offer workshops, speak series and one-on-one support.
Cancer is a term no one likes to hear. Last year, my world was rocked when my Grams, who was suffering from a small cell norendocrine cancer, became my guardian angel. That moment, that day, will be a memory I will never forget. The night before, she wasn't feel well and she hadn't been doing well that week. I was scheduled to run the half in Erie the following morning and debated on going. Before I left her house that night, I told her I would see her in the morning. She looked at me and said to go run and to come see her with my medal afterwards. She never saw it. During the 2.5 hour drive to Erie, being within 5min of the Start line, I got "the" call. My Grams took her final breath just moments ago. My heart sank and my world came crashing. I wanted to turn around, I wanted to come home but my Mom told me not too. She said, with a quiver in her voice, "She would have wanted you to finish."
That day, I ran my first half marathon. With tears in my eyes, it was by far my toughtest run. I couldn't focus, I wanted to quit but something in me kept me going. Whenever I would slow my pace because I was getting frustrated, the perfect song would come on to get me going again. She was on my mind the entire time. When I entered the course, dandilion whisps were flying everywhere. She was with me and she was watching me.
This year, I am running in honor of my Grandmother who fought for 18 months before earning her wings.
Please help me reach my goal and give this amazing organization the monetary means to help other families.
