BENEFITING: J MOSS FOUNDATION
CURRENT WISH MILES: 2,205
HERE'S THE CHALLENGE
Make a wish, and passing it on....
The goal is to work together to raise $10,000 and receive 1,000,000 exercise miles for prevention, one wish at a time!
You can make a wish, pledge exercise miles, pledge $0.10 per mile (up to the amount of your choice), and/or donate.
Marlayna (the founder) "lit the first candle" and made the first wish (PLAY HER VIDEO). Her wish was to receive $3,500 and 3,500 miles from friends and family in 30 days. Now, she's passing the candle to YOU!
CAN YOU INSPIRE YOUR GROUP OF FRIENDS & FAMILY TO GET MOVING AND GIVING? YOUR CHALLENGE IS TO RECEIVE $350 AND 350 MILES IN 30 DAYS, but feel free to blow us away!!!
Why 350? We'll, because 350 is the magical number that will help the average person prevent diabetes- $360 pays for 6 months of nutrition counseling and support, and 350 exercise miles is what it would take to lose enough weight to reduce the liklihood of developing diabetes by 58%.

Every dollar – every mile- every step, stroke, and pedal places us further down the path towards prevention.
HERE’S THE SKINNY
The Skinny Gene Project, a division of the J.Moss Foundation, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping those at-risk prevent type 2 diabetes. The Skinny Gene Healthy Birthdays program raises money to help the organization continue their mission to prevent diabetes, one person at a time.
Skinny Gene Healthy Birthday Wishes are a fun and rewarding way of staying active and motivating others (or yourself) to live a healthy lifestyle. We work together, donating both exercise miles and money (aka “moolah”), to help at-risk families receive the nutritional counseling and support needed to prevent type 2 diabetes.
We can clearly see that childhood and adult obesity are a significant problem in our communities, but instead of wagging our finger in judgment, we extend a helping hand to those asking for help to prevent diabetes.
HERE’S THE WHY
Diabetes has been called a lot of awful names, like the Silent Killer and the Tsunami of Diseases, and rightful so. With diabetes, we are facing the worst epidemic our country has even seen. It kills more people a year than AIDS and breast cancer combined. It currently threatens the lives of 105 million, mostly unsuspecting, Americans that either have diabetes or prediabetes. Now, it dares to threaten 1 in 3 children.
We’re all about celebrating MORE birthdays – 23 extra, to be specific
More and more children are being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, which was previous known as adult onset diabetes. If a child develops full-blown, type 2 diabetes, they can lose up to 23 years of life. To stop this from happening, we need to educate the moms and empower them to become mentors for their children, so they can work as a family to prevent diabetes.
HERE’S THE HOW
Whether motivated to help those in need, improve their own health, or just think it’s a new and fun thing to do, participants in our program are selflessly using their birthdays as an opportunity to do some good for our communities. Image that… instead of receiving gifts, they choose to give the biggest of all – the opportunity to live a healthy life.
It all begins with just ONE WISH!
The guest of honor makes a birthday wish and asks their circle of friends and family to join the fight to prevent diabetes. The group works towards a common goal to raise money for nutrition services and contribute exercise to create awareness about the importance of increasing physical activity to prevent type 2 diabetes.
Once they have made their wish, they “Pass the Candle” to the next person willing to dedicate their birthday to prevention. Each wish, although unique in its own way, is working towards one common goal.
It just takes one person, one wish at a time, to make a world of difference.
HERE’S THE IMPACT
Each $35 received helps to pay for 1 month of one-on-one nutrition counseling for an at-risk family/person.
Each 350 exercise miles represents the number of calories the average person would have to burn to reduce their likelihood of getting full-blown diabetes by 58%
