The Skinny Gene Project, a division of the J.Moss Foundation, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping those at-risk prevent type 2 diabetes.
The goal of the Skinny Gene Birthday Wishes program is to inspire others to work together to receive 1,000,000 exercise miles and to raise $10,000 to help the organization continue their mission to prevent diabetes,one wish... one person at a time.

Heather McClelland is the most recent recipient of the Awesomeness Award [Yes, it's an internal thing, but hey, it still counts.] for selflessly dedicating her birthday to provide nutritional counseling and support to those desparate to prevent diabetes.
HERE'S HEATHER'S WISH
This summer I will turn 38 and it also marks 20 years since my high school graduation. Looking back on all the generous gifts I've received through the years, I realize the greatest gift I have is my health. And this year, I ask that you help me bring that gift to others.
When I was 10 my grandfather learned he had diabetes. Back then, I was overwhelmed by a single thought - he could never eat sweets again. Could you imagine? Now that I am an adult, I realize that was the least of his worries. Someone with diabetes lives with the daily fear of losing a leg, going blind or even suffering a seizure because they waited too long to eat a meal. Could you imagine?
Fortunately we all have to power to prevent AND it's easy.
Just take a walk. Pledge your miles and help bring awareness to those in your community.
If you don't want to walk, pledge a few bucks and help someone else spread the awareness.
Or even better - do both!
HERE'S THE CHALLENGE
My personal goal is to honor my grandfather by raising 1,000 units (1 mile = 1 unit and 1 dollar = 1 unit) between July 23rd and August 23rd. I'm personally pledging $25 & 25 miles.
So please, celebrate my birthday with me! Pledge today!

MY GOAL IS TO RAISE A MINIMUM OF $350
So why 350? We'll,because 350 is the magical number that will help the average person prevent diabetes- $350 pays for 6 months of nutrition counseling and support, and 350 exercise miles is the equivalent number of calories that it would take to lose enough weight to reduce the liklihood of developing diabetes by 58%.
