My mother, Barbara, died of breast cancer on Nov 29, 2003. As you can imagine, I was devastated and grief stricken. It was during this time that a dear friend of mine introduced me to OUR HOUSE. OUR HOUSE provides grief support to kids (as young as 4), teens and adults in the greater Los Angeles area. As I began to process my own grief and learn about the services that the wonderful folks at OUR HOUSE provide, I decided to get more involved with the agency and to support them in any way I could.
When someone you love dies, it’s hard to have hope and think about how you will survive. It is with the compassion and support of others that you can really start to process your grief. OUR HOUSE helps pave the way where you can find strength, compassion and support from others who know what you are going through. We need your help so we can continue providing grief support services - Grief is universal; we will experience the death of someone we love - together we can make a difference and make sure that OUR HOUSE will be there.
On Sunday, April 29th we will be holding our annual Run for Hope- a day for anyone and everyone to run in memory of a loved one who has died. Adults and kids of all ages participate by putting a picture of a loved one on the back of their shirt to honor them.
One of the things I love about OUR HOUSE is that we provide grief support at no cost to underserved kids throughout LA who have zero access to grief support services and who unfortunately, experience death far too often. We cover the cost for these underserved kids to participate in this special day- an important opportunity for them to see that they aren’t alone in their grief.
Please consider donating to my campaign and this special organization. Just to show you how much of a difference you can make- a donation of $25 will sponsor 1 kid on their run for hope! All funds raised go directly to OUR HOUSE.
OUR HOUSE is a nonprofit providing grief support services, resources and hope. For more information, visit www.OurHouse-Grief.org.
