I am excited and honored to be running the marathon for the charity group OutRun 38. OutRUN 38 is an organization that promotes fitness and healthy living in a supportive community to heighten awareness of Cystic Fibrosis. Every dollar donated and every mile I run goes to adults with Cystic Fibrosis.
I never got into distance running until I became a mother. My mother had a heart transplant at the age of 42 and passed away two months before my wedding. I began running to stay healthy for my children. Six years ago I ran my first half-marathon, since then I have run 9 other half-marathons and two full marathons. As gratifying as it is to complete these races, it is an even greater feeling seeing my children prance around the house with my race medals around their necks.
Running the NYC Marathon for charity has given running a whole new meaning. OutRUN's motto is "Running for those who can't." As a special educator, this cause is very important to me. I am not only running for my family, I am running for a cause that is greater than me. I am giving back to a community of people who can't do the day to day things that come so easily to me.
