THE STORY:

Hey everyone, my name is Amy :) I'm 22 and have "recovered" from a very long period of battling depression, anxiety, self harm, addictions, suicidal ideations and attempts and a variety of eating disorders. I have struggled with depression and anxiety since very early childhood (initially mainly due to a chaotic upbringing and bullying) and my treatment didnt start until I was 15 years old after my first suicide attempt. Since then, I have had 29 inpatient hospitalizations, residential treatment facility for 7 1/2 months, extended acute care unit for 6 1/2 months, 3 times at a partial day program for at least a couple weeks long each time, support groups, countless outpatient services and been through almost all of the Meds as well. So with all of that treatment, you can probably imagine that I have quite a chunk of hospital debt. Right now I am working full time, live in a place with a roommate, and even have a car... Which is all stuff the doctors and my treatment team were losing hope that I would ever have because I used to be ungulfed in mental illness. I have actually been off meds for a long while, and am about to get a job as a peer support specialist to help those currently battling mental illness and/or behavioral issues. Even though I work full time, I am having a really hard time keeping up with my medical bills. They are mostly all in collections too. I'm doing what I can, but I can't keep up with the hospital bills on top of my regular bills I need to pay to live. I am super passionate about the mental health field. From my own experience, but also from being close to people whom have had their own experiences as well. In the past 2 years I have lost 3 people to suicide. Enough is enough. Suicide is a really big problem (maybe bigger than what people would like to accept), and mental illness is really more common than some may believe. Any donations I get, 50% will go towards my hospital bills and the other 50% will go to Please Live and Please Live's Love Life Ministries, a local non-profit for mental health awareness and suicide prevention, unless otherwise noted from the donater. Thank you for reading some of my story and your support :) any little bit helps a lot <3
