BENEFITING: OUTREACH WITH LACROSSE & SCHOOLS
EVENT DATE: Jul 06, 2016
Growing the game in Chicago's inner-city...
Already this year, Chicago is home to more shootings than both New York and Los Angeles combined, and the violence is almost entirely geographically isolated to the city's west and south sides. We created OWLS (Outreach with Lacrosse & Schools) five years ago to provide an option for this at-risk demographic, and we need your help to continue our mission.
OWLS uses the sport of lacrosse to improve the quality of life for Chicago’s most at-risk youth through a holistic intervention model. Using inner-city schools and community centers as our access point, we provide this service through a unique blending of academic support, sport programming as well as service-learning and enrichment opportunities. We started in 2011 with 10 kids at St. Malachy School on the West Side of Chicago. Over the next five years we established after-school programs at three more schools and one community-based site in the inner-city. This past spring marked our highest participation to date with over 150 boys and girls!
Our goal is to raise $20,000 to help develop our after-school programs...
What would $20,000 mean to OWLS students?
- Help create an experience that is developmentally positive for our kids and includes academic resources, service-learning projects, healthy lifestyles education, and team-building scenarios.
- Provide OWLS students the equipment, uniforms, insurance, field space, officials, coaches, healthy snacks, and water needed for a successful season.
This service costs in excess of $20,000 every season, and we need your help in serving more at-risk youth in 2017! No gift is too small and please consider sharing our mission with your friends and family using the hashtage #RiseUp4OWLS...it will make a huge difference!
Yours in lacrosse,
-The OWLS Team
