THE STORY:

MARLINS KICK CANCER

Here are some words from sopmore Maddie Sanders about her families struggle with cancer:

Wednesday July 29 a night that I will never forget! The night I received word that my mom had cancer. You see families all around going through this battle, but you never actually believe that it could happen to yours, until it does and your whole world seems to change. Through the following days and weeks, with doctors appointments and procedures they poked and prodded, taking blood, testing all sorts of parts and areas I never even knew existed. Going to all these procedures and appointments, asking the doctors to explain to me like I was a kindergartener what exactly was going on and finally coming to the conclusion that my mom indeed had breast cancer. With this news we were on to the next step, finding out what's next.... surgery... radiation...and more operations and procedures. In the midst of this process, some more bad news was thrown our way. The doctors found a tumor located within her colon that was cancerous. After this appointment our hearts and eyes turned to the sky in prayer, praying there wasn't more unexpected news. After finding all this out, returning to school, leaving my mom, and trying to focus on soccer and classes was the hardest part. I know she is in Gods hands and he has a plan. With each day comes a new challenge, and new experience. I am so grateful for the amount of support our family has received through this whole process, every little prayer and home cooked meal has meant the world to us! I know we have a long journey ahead of us, but we are learning, getting stronger and keeping a positive attitude with everyday! Thank you again for your thoughts and prayers! It would mean the world if you would take some time and donate to cancer research.

We have all been affected by cancer in some way or other or know those who have been.  Make a decision to Play4 them.  Make a decision to help NFCR pave the way to finding a cure.  Together, playing for ALL CANCERS, ALL COLORS and through ALL SPORTS, we will make a difference.

On October 17th at 7pm the Marlins will be taking on Washington and Lee in an effort to raise money for Cancer Research benefitting The National Foundation for Cancer Research.
