The ride: 1,400+ human powered miles from Seattle to Los Angeles. The trip will be self-supported, meaning I'll have all my backpacking/camping gear on the bike, as well as food, etc.
ALL PROCEEDS GO DIRECTLY TO THE LOOKING OUT FOUNDATION
Howdy! I'm Sarah. I grew up in Los Angeles, but have spent most of my adult life in Colorado. I was adopted as a baby, as was my special needs brother. I currently live in Denver with my two wiener dogs and parrot, doing that normal person job thing until I finally go back to school (for nursing) later this year. Until recent months, I've ridden/trained horses my whole life. In my spare time, I'm usually out hiking, DH mountain/road biking, skiing, camping, playing music, going to shows, two-stepping, or being a bicycle mechanic hobbyist. And drinking an excessive amount of chai tea.
About the LOF:
Founded in 2008 by my favorite current-day musician, Brandi Carlile, the foundation's mission is "to support, through music, humanitarian outreach efforts in local communities and beyond." The arts-based foundation serves the chronically underserved through its ongoing philanthropic efforts and involvement with social issues. Brandi and her fans donate $1 from every concert ticket sold to the Looking Out Foundation, channeling hundreds of thousands of dollars and resources to organizations that support the arts, women, public health, the hungry, and the homeless.
Inspiration for the ride:
In summer of 2013, my youthful, sassy, loving mom passed away in my arms after suffering a stroke two weeks prior. None of us could have imagined this happening. She was healthy. We were reminded of how fragile life really is, and of how little control any of us posess. I spent the next year supporting my dad and shuffling my brother between group home situations. He's in a great one now, so fingers crossed! In September of 2014 I moved back to Colorado to recharge my soul.
I'm doing this ride in memory of my mom, and to benefit the LOF, but I'm also doing it to test my human physical, emotional, and mental boundaries. They need some pushing. Whether it be a donation, a backyard to camp in, or simply words of encouragement, I appreciate it! PLEASE learn about and donate to Brandi's Looking Out Foundation. It's so worth it!
Love and light :-)
