Pack a Snack: Feeding the Citizens of Austin
Organized by: Morgan Molidor
The truth is, this project started because I wanted to volunteer in my community but I wasn't interested in going through the process of coordinating with someone, scheduling, and completing a background check (some may call that lazy). I realized I could take action on my own terms and in my own way, immediately. A lot of people think that "volunteering" is a huge effort, but it's really just going out of your way to do something for someone else. Taking action and serving others.
Nutrition is important to me and I know that healthy food is a commodity among the homeless. I decided to pack 40 healthy snacks filled with carrots, celery, broccoli, grapes, and bananas. I drove downtown and passed them out to anyone I could find. These people were SO grateful and appreciative for just a tiny snack!
With the help of some friends, I have been able to increase the amount of snacks I can pass out, but now I'd like to carry water bottles as well. This Texas heat is only going to get worse, so passing out water is a priority.
I (and all the homeless citizens of Austin) would appreciate any help for this project. I encourage you to pack an extra snack for someone you see on the street corner! Each one of us can make a difference. Together we can make CHANGE.
