"Packed With Love"
Organized by: Myra Parks
In March 2011 I helped with a monthly mission trip to downtown Los Angeles. We visited an area called “Skid Row” where a large percentage of the Los Angeles area homeless population calls home. There are numerous missions and shelters in the area but the amount of homeless people supersedes the amount of help available. That trip was three years ago and I could never manage to shake the heart wrenching feeling I felt after seeing so many in need. I have been thinking long and hard about more ways I can lend a hand to our cities homeless. I have decided to collect donations and create Backpacks to pass out to the homeless. The current contents of a backpack are simple and inexpensive but contain extremely needed items. The backpacks cost an estimated $20.00 to create. Things such as a tube of toothpaste with a toothbrush, a few granola bars and cereal bars, peanut butter, a bottled water, hand sanitizer, a washcloth, a fresh, dry pair of socks, Band-Aids, soap, shampoo, a comb, Chapstick and a few other daily necessities! All the things we frivolously take for granted would be a matter of survival and comfort for our brothers and sisters out there!
