On April 2nd, myself, friends, and fellow students will be participating in P.A.C.T's 2nd annual Color Out Cancer 5k. P.A.C.T (Pittsburgh Attacks Cancer Together) is a student-run organization at the University of Pittsburgh that raises money for cancer research at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. This institution is renowned for its research on the prevention and treatment of various types of cancer.
Sadly, cancer has impacted nearly every individual's life: whether they are personally suffering, know someone who is currently suffering or has suffered in the past, or know someone who has passed away from cancer. My mother is currently undergoing her second round of treatment for brain cancer, and my family has experienced firsthand just how much a great team of doctors, the correct medical treatment, and the ability to have options for treatment can truly make a difference. Without their support and resilience, this difficult and trying journey would be much more difficult than it already is.
P.A.CT., as well as myself, encourage anyone living in Pittsburgh to consider running in our race. If you cannot run, even donating $5 makes an immense difference. Cancer is a horrible illness, and although it may seem as though our impact is small, a lot of small impacts help to one day make a big difference in either lengthening or saving someone's life.
