BENEFITING: Family Humanitarian Experience
The South Sudanese refugee crisis has become a problem we can no longer ignore. Many refugees have lost everything - their homes, family members, and all of their possessions. The refugees currently receive one food ration a day and a tent if available. For women and girls, the situation is made more difficult each time their menstrual cycle comes around. They lack the means to purchase disposable pads or extra cloth to create make-shift feminine hygiene products. Without soap or an extra pair of clothes, washing soiled clothing becomes extremely difficult. The most desperate resort to using banana fibers or leaves which are painful, cause severe infections, and just don't work! For girls this means staying home from school a week each month, causing many to fall behind, and eventually drop out. These reusable feminine hygiene kits give them back months of their education each year. They are made to be durable enough to be washed and reused for up to 3 years. We have hired local ugandan women in need to sew these kits, effectively doubling the impact of this project. Refugees get a much needed kit, and the women sewing the kits have a steady income. Every woman should be able to tackle the world in her own unique way. Lets give these women one less stumbling block, so they can shine. The number of people we reach, depends on you. 1 kit = $10 and includes carrying bag, soap, towel, underwear, 8 removable and re-useable pads, and 2 shields. Our goal is 500 kits ($5000), but we would be elated to shatter the ceiling and get one to every single refugee we can find. We are a strictly volunteer based organization, meaning everything you donate goes directly to the project. When we say ALL your money goes toward the project, we mean it. 100% to be exact.
We find solutions, you fuel the change.
