Acupuncture Volunteer in Nepal
Organized by: Paige Hetherington
EVENT DATE Nov 01, 2015
I will be traveling to Nepal with Acupuncturists Without Borders in November to work in disaster relief clinics. In the wake of the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal on Saturday, April 25, there has been an international outpouring of support. The Nepalese will undoubtedly be facing years of anxiety, depression, insomnia, flashbacks, fear and other traumatic symptoms. The emotional well-being of the children is of particular concern. Although Nepal has undergone significant physical devastation, the remaining unseen emotional damage can be even more destructive. Acupuncturists Without Borders-Nepal (AWB-Nepal) has been providing clinics since the earthquakes. Over 10,000 people have been treated, and many dozens of clinics sites have been served throughout the entire hardest hit region.
In addition to treating those affected by the earthquakes in Kathmandu and outlying areas, we will be working in a women's clinic which serves survivors of trafficking. We will also be training Nepali community organizers and healthcare practitioners to provide treatments and sustain the clinics. These efforts will continue growing the program and building local capacity. All donations are used for travel expenses and clinic supplies. Your generous contributions support a tremendous community effort. Thank you for being a part of it!
