BENEFITING: EMPOWER NEPALI GIRLS INC
EVENT DATE: Dec 16, 2015
From Dec 16 - Jan 9, I will be traveling to Nepal with a few students from my Graduate Counseling program to work with a foundation that rescues and supports lower caste girls who are at risk to be trafficked into sex slavery (www.EmpowerNepaliGirls.org). Since the earthquakes occurred in April of this year, ENG has also worked with medical teams in Nepal to provide healthcare and treatment for trauma (which is widespread).
We will conduct home visits, award scholarships, mentor the children and their families, and then go trekking in the Himalayas! It will be an emotionally and physically challenging trip, but one that is life-changing - and an amazing opportunity to practice my developing counseling skills with the most marginalized population imaginable. These are young girls who would literally die without our help. This foundation is doing incredible work, and it's very quickly become a cause close to my heart.
I have committed to raising $5,000 in scholarship funds for the girls - any funds that exceed that first goal will be *very* gratefully used to defray some of my (rather large) travel expenses. If by some miracle my flight and lodging expenses get covered too, any additional funds will go to back to the scholarship fund. Thank you for any help at all you can give - money, social media "shares," etc.
