Operation Backpack is a program near and dear to my heart. Ending the cycle of poverty is best achieved through education. Many children living in homeless shelters and without the means to purchase a backpack and school supplies will often skip school entirely due to feelings of misplaced shame and embarrassment. A new filled backpack with all the supplies they need, allows them to look and feel like their peers on that first day of school, carrying themselves high, knowing someone believed in them and thought their education was important and a future was possible. If you have time, watch the video of The McRae Family found in the pictures to the left. It shares the story of one young woman who benefitted from Volunteers of America's Operation Backpack. It encapsulates everything we strive for. It is exemplary of the impact the program has on thousands of children. Many more children share her exact experience after having benefitted from this incredible program. Please help us help these kids.
