Fall is right around the corner, and with it comes our Third Annual 24 Hours of Moab Fundraising drive for World Cup Dreams Foundation! In 2010 I proposed the idea to ride, and five USST alum got together and we did it. Lots of flat tires and mechanical failures placed us in 16th in our division, middle of the pack. More importantly we raised $7,000, enough to support one injured athlete the following Winter! 2011 brought more excitement for the event, and we fielded 4 WCD teams comprised mostly of USST alum. My team finished 2nd in our division, and we had two other teams in the top-5. We also raised almost $25,000 and supported three injured athletes-not bad for 24 hours of work! This year we hope to continue to build momentum for this event. I have set a goal of raising $15,000 for my 5 person team, enough to support two injured athletes next Winter. And sad as it is, those two athletes will need the help desperately. Let's be honest, Alpine Skiing is a tiny sport in our country, and these athletes do not make much money, in fact many of them are paying their own way, even on the National Team. And if an athlete gets injured they have no chance of prize money, or even signing a contract for the next season. The money we raise for 24 Hours of Moab will help these athletes to do proper rehabilitation, eat well, and sleep under a roof until they get back to the sport they love. I cannot stress how important this can be! In 2006 I suffered a near fatal injury while competing, and within two months all my contracts were DOA. Without WCD injury support I scraped by, and consequently my rehab and training were compromised. I never reached peak form again. Anything I can do to prevent a similar fate is well worth it, even if it means hammering at top speed through technical redrock at 3:45 am in total darkness...
Any donation helps- $20, $50, $100, $1,000. Many thanks for your support, it means everything to myself, my team, and all the athletes it could and will support! Let's Ride-
