Dan Palmier Running 2014 Boston Marathon for local charities
Organized by: Dan Palmier
Approximately five weeks prior to the 2014 Boston Marathon, Dan set a goal to be part of this year's Boston Strong marathon celebration by running the Marathon and raising funds for local charities. Though severely light on preparation, Dan persevered and crossed the finish line in just over five hours. The Palmier Foundation thanks you for your support and greatly appreciates the generous donations received so far, which total over $12,300 ($24,600 with UC Funds' gift match)!
Marathon Monday was an incredible day of community and remembrance - but the work is not over yet! We are still fundraising to help the Lieutenant Walsh - Firefighter Kennedy Memorial Fund, One Fund Boston and Friends of Wellesley METCO, Inc reach the $26,200 mark. Please contribute whatever you can, even $1, it adds up and it's fully matched! UC Funds' commitment to match donations up to a total of $50,000 has been extended through May 15, 2014. Thank you in advance for your continued support.
Checks can be made payable to The Palmier Foundation and mailed to The Palmier Foundation, Care of UC Funds, 745 Boylston Street, Suite 502, Boston, MA 02116.
The Palmier Foundation will continue its support of One Fund Boston in memory of the victims of 2013's Boston Marathon Bombing. The One Fund Boston continues to focus on the significant ongoing needs of the victims of the attacks. Dan, the CEO of UC Funds , whose office is located one block away from the Boston Marathon finish line, commented "Our hearts are still heavy for the victims and their families from last year's senseless tragedy."
The Palmier Foundation supports Boston's firefighters in mourning the loss of their brothers, Lieutenant Ed Walsh and Firefighter Mike Kennedy, in a 9-alarm fire on March 26. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of Ed and Mike as well as all of our brave firefighters," commented Dan, whose father was a New York City Fire Officer for 34 years, and was part of a company that lost many on 9/11. Dan understands the Boston Fire Department's tragic loss and has been moved to support these families in their time of need. His fundraising efforts will help build a small "nest egg" for the future needs of the families of these heroes who gave their lives for our community.
The Palmier Foundation also supports Friends of Wellesley METCO, Inc. Donations are used to subsidize a wide range of programs including tutoring, summer enrichment, transportation coordination and scholarships for worthy students. When asked why he supports METCO, Dan responded " The METCO program affords better education opportunities to urban children and provides a more culturally diverse learning environment for suburban schools. Giving is not a choice, it's an obligation. I am very blessed to have a supportive family, top-notch education and great role models in my life. I am grateful for the opportunity to help someone who may not be as blessed as I am."
Dan Palmier maintains an active life style and encourages the UC Funds team to do the same. He ran the Boston Marathon in 1994 and 1996, raising funds for the American Liver Foundation, and was excited to tackle Heartbreak Hill for a third time.
