Palnge Monastery Earthquake Relief Fund
Organized by: Rebecca Riggle for Palnge Monastery
Making a relief fund to raise money for the Palnge Monastery. They are trying to feed themselves (90-100 monks) as well as provide 3 meals a day and shelter the local community. Around 95% of the monks that make up monastery are from the villages outside of the main city of Kathmandu. These villages have been if not all but nearly devestated by the Earthquake that hit Saturday April 24th. The villages not been reached by any help, aid, funds anything, Days later they are are still waiting for rescue, medical attention food, water, shelter. Our contributions will be sending much needed rescue & purchasing medical supplies, food, water & shelter.
Four days later and in most villages rescue, medical help, food and water have still not arrived. The conditions are getting worse. "We haven't had any food here since the earthquake," "We don't have anything left here.” The death toll is increasing by hundreds a day. Houses are down, roads are cracked people are left homeless and hungry. Drinking water supplies are running low and the authorities are very concerned that if it isn't addressed soon it could lead to diseases breaking out, which would only exacerbate an already difficult situation. Yes there is foreign aid, but it is very slow to arrive and is mostly being given out inside of the capital, not to the outlaying villages which have been almost totally destroyed. There are accounts of desperate residents rushing towards relief helicopters begging to be airlifted.
