P&O Service Learning Trip to Guatemala
Organized by: Tiffany Harders
EVENT DATE Jun 12, 2016
My name is Tiffany Harders. I am a second year Masters of Prosthetics & Orthotics student at the University of Washington. Through the Global Rehabilitation Organization (GROW), a nationally recognized student run global health organization, I have been accepted to volunteer in Zacapa, Guatemala for a week in June of 2016.
I am appreciative for this opportunity to apply my 6 years of education in biology and Prosthetics and Orthotics to serve this community. I will be working interprofessionally with physical therapists, speech and language pathologists, and prosthetists and orthotists. We are collaborating with a local and sustainable health care organization, Hearts in Motion (HIM), whose mission is to provide quality medical care for the people they serve throughout Guatemala and Central America. I will also be working with members of the Range of Motion Project (ROMP), a non-profit, for-impact healthcare organization dedicated to providing prosthetic and orthotic care to those without access to these services.
In Zacapa I will train local health care providers and provide P&O services to individuals throughout the region without access to this type of care. Their mission is to eliminate ambulatory disability by providing a preferential option in orthotic and prosthetic care. By supplying prosthetic limbs and orthotic braces to those who do not have access to these services, they aim to return patients to their families and communities as productive, healthy individuals.
Can you help me get there? My goal is to raise $1,000. Funding will go directly toward my travel expenses (the program fee, airfare, housing, etc.) and the prosthetic and orthotic/medical supplies I will bring to Zacapa. Please consider donating. Any amount, no matter how small, is helpful! Thank you!
