Pangaea Place- A House Without Borders
Organized by: Jamie Berry
Mission: To provide independent living housing for unaccompanied refugee minors (URM) that are aging out of the foster care system. The Need: Kids from war torn countries around the world are seeking asylum through the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). These kids flee their homes country to avoid persecution, conscription, violence and threats of rape. Some are orphaned, some are sent by their parents. All are looking for a better life. Children, usually teenagers , travel through dangerous territories to safer border countries to seek security at refugee camps. At the refugee camps a small number are granted passage to the US where they are placed with a foster family. Foster placement is often difficult to procure and sustain. The Plan: Phase 1: This week- Raise $850- $1000 to file paperwork with the IRS to get our 501c3 (nonprofit status) Phase 2: Next 12 months- Raise $60,000 from individuals, businesses and churches to purchase property to house unaccompanied refugee minors. Phase 3: 24 months to 48 months out- Start a coffee shop to employ and give job skills to refugees.
