BENEFITING: PANGJE FOUNDATION
Why Nepal? Why Pangje? Why now? - A letter from our Founder...
A year ago I officially started Pangje Foundation – a charitable organization geared to help Snow Leopard conservation and protection. Pangje is a Nepali slang term for Snow Leopard. Nepal – the mountains, the people, the kindness, the beauty – have all had a major impact on my life, and Pangje was founded as a way to give back to such a special part of the world. On the surface, Pangje is about conservation of endangered species and the fragile mountain ecosystem. But just below the surface, our deeper goal is to help improve the lives of those living in the Himalaya. The cornerstone program we support – teaching school kids of Nepal about environmental stewardship – does so much more than help the Snow Leopard and the mountain environments these rare cats call home. In helping the kids become present and future stewards, they are gaining pride in their country, their communities, their culture…and they are having a chance to see greater opportunity and purpose in the larger world.
I have been on numerous mountain expeditions to Nepal, and experienced amazing moments during those trips. The most profound moments in Nepal (and of my life), however, have been spending time in the field with the kids, teachers, and scientists during the Snow Leopard courses. To say these have been moving experiences doesn’t even begin to cover it.
Now, as a result of the recent earthquakes that swept across Nepal, many of the villages we work in have lost so much. Homes, schools, and more have been completely wiped out. Pangje Foundation will be helping to rebuild these villages, so that once again the people of Nepal can live in an environment that allows them to learn, grow, and be safe. Without homes, schools, shops…without villages…we cannot help kids become leaders of their communities and protectors of their natural resources.
Pangje is accepting donations to help rebuild the many rural mountain villages we work with. We will personally work with the communities in both disbursement of funds as well as hands on work in the rebuilding efforts. Pangje is a 501 (c) 3 Charitable Organization and all donations qualify as tax deductible.
