EVENT DATE: Oct 04, 2014
Dating back to the early days of their courtship, Ross and Diana have developed a love for Olympic Weightlifting and the strength and community it fosters. As part of our wedding registry, we wanted to direct some of your generosity toward an organization that is doing great things to expand access to the sport.
This is our wedding registry website to accept funds for Inner City Weightlifting. Your donation will provide funding for gym resources and operational costs.
*TWO NOTES: For tracking purposes, we'd really appreciate it if you would include your name with the donation. If you would prefer this information not be publicized, you can select "do not display name on campaign page" on the intake form. Also note, the donation aggregator will default add 5% to support the website's operations. You can select the "optional processing fee" to learn what this fee applies to, and to adjust (eliminate) it as you like.
You can learn more about the gym and its programs below, and through their feature video on Sports Center.
InnerCity Weightlifting (ICW) is a Boston-based non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring hope and providing a path to success for the area’s most at-risk youth.
Our mission is to reduce violence and promote professional, personal and academic achievement among urban youth. We serve young people on a direct path to gang involvement, former and active gang members, and young victims of domestic abuse through the sport of Olympic Lifting. We work to empower young people with the confidence to say no to violence and yes to opportunity.
InnerCity Weightlifting is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization (Our Tax Exempt ID# - 27-1333425).
We have four key elements:
1) Olympic Lifting - caters to our students interests of being bigger, stronger, and faster.
2) Job Readiness - We prepare our students for careers in personal training and seek to employ them ourselves. For students not interested in a career in training we network to find them professionals in desirable fields and open doors for our students.
3) Frequent Positive Adult Mentorship.
4) Academic Support - In our first three months we expanded from 4 to nearly 50 students. 48% of our current students have been referred in by our initial students.
