Paper for Paperless Me

THE STORY:

Greetings All,

This is the story of Sally Anne, who has been living a "paperless existence" for the last several years. Sally Anne is an adoptee who was brought to the US from South Asia in the 1970's.  She was lawfully adopted and naturalized shortly thereafter. This process unfortunately occurred prior to the federal government’s implementation of a new record-keeping system. In the process of converting to the new databases, Sally’s file was misplaced and she is no longer reflected in the current system. In spite of this, a hard copy of her file still exists as the USCIS is by law required to keep them. Unable to document her citizenship or prove her legal identity, Sally Anne has repeatedly petitioned the United States Immigration and Citizenship Services (USCIS) in order to access the verification she needs. With no identification or documentation, Sally Anne has also been unable to obtain employment or stable, secure housing. With no other means of supporting herself, she has worked illegally as a purveyor of erotic services. Not only is Sally struggling to find employment and housing, but she is doing this all while managing her Asperger’s Syndrome.

Sally Anne's story is complex and invites us into understanding how life as a legal immigrant-turned-citizen living with high-functioning autism and no documentation can lead to being locked into an illegal means of self-support. The physical, emotional, and legal dangers that she finds herself in daily have been exhausting and have caused great stress.

With all possible or known avenues exhausted, Sally Anne has now finally has secured an extremely knowledgeable and experienced immigration lawyer who is working on her behalf to move the USCIS & Department of State to locate and produce the documents necessary to help her move on with her life. Please help her fund this project that so that she can move from being "paperless" and towards the life she's ready to start building.

All monies raised will go to legal fees, documentation, filing fees, or other relevant costs related to obtaining the necessary documentation to prove/verify citizenship and gain access to the proper and legally recognized forms of identification for Sally Anne. Any gifts above these costs will serve to help her obtain stable, secure housing. Every dollar counts. No amount is too small (or large).

Thank you so much for your support! For more in Sally Anne's own words, please visit her blog at www.livingpaperless.wordpress.com or see numerous articles written about her by visiting her Facebook community page here:

Whenever women and girls are forced into survival sex, either in Syrian refugee camps or here in the US, it is a tragedy and shames our society. 3 years ago
